Let The Pros HelpIn the past month, our firm has had the privilege to help two clients involved in significant auto accidents. In both cases, the incidents were not their fault. Fortunately, no one was hurt. But the damage to both vehicles was significant.

First, I'd like to point out both called in a panic asking, "What do I do?" They didn't have to wait on hold when they called. And they didn't work with a random 800 number employee. They spoke with their agent. The phone was answered because they have the ability to reach their agent via office phone, text, email, and mobile number. It's standard protocol in our office for ownership and agents to provide their mobile number to all clients. Being accessible and responsive is the key to winning the business — and, more importantly, keeping it!

In regard to the accidents, Client #1 had a vehicle worth just north of $175,000. The other party — who was at fault for the accident — did not carry the correct coverage; this triggered the Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage we provided. The vehicle is being totaled; however, because there was $500,000 Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist property damage on our auto insurance policy, Client #1 will be able to replace the vehicle. This is the case even though the other party didn't have the correct coverage.

Client #2 had a unique incident involving a wrecker company causing damage to his vehicle. His vehicle's value is $200,000, and the other party does have enough coverage to pay for the damages. However, our client was not offered Diminished Value by the wrecker's insurance company. Because we were notified from the beginning, we were able to check in with our client, and able to advise them to seek the lost value of the vehicle due to the accident. The communication between us and Client #2 will result in an additional $7,500 going directly to our insured.

Bottom Line: Stories like these are great reminders of the importance of having accessible, responsive and knowledgeable insurance professional who can provide you the right coverage. Work with a professional that will do the right thing for you. Work with someone who will be accessible and give you the ability to reach them in a variety of ways.
